The Three Meanings of Enlightenment

Enlightenment is often considered the goal of spiritual practice in general. However, the same word – enlightenment – can mean very different things to different people. The aim of this article is to clarify the three main differences in meaning:

(1)   ‘Sudden’ enlightenment

(2)   ‘Gradual’ enlightenment

(3)   ‘Final’ enlightenment
