Further Details

A two-week Enlightenment Intensive is qualitatively different from a three-day. There is time to sink into the rhythm of a contemplative life. The days are shorter with more rest, longer walks and more time to look after the body. 

And at their heart sits the possibility of a deep enlightenment experience. 

Deep direct experiences profoundly affect one’s perception of reality and the meaning of being ourselves in our ordinary human lives. The difference between a typical three-day enlightenment experience and a deep experience has been described as like that between putting one’s toe in the waters of truth and wading into the flow of the river. 

For many, such an experience re-orientates their whole life, grounding it in the reality of underlying Truth. 

As on any intensive, one cannot make this change of state of consciousness happen. On a long intensive, the immersion in sustained openness, truth-telling and contact with others, is like entering a tidal current of honesty and surrender.  Participating on an EI of this length can be a watershed in your openness that ripples out to all aspects of your life. 

Seeking truth for truth’s sake is intrinsically meaningful, fulfilling and valuable.  In dyads, it takes us to the heart of contact; our shared human struggle, and the fellowship of our courage, sincerity and openness. Day by day, a virtuous circle is formed by the shared intent for truth and the giving and receiving of deep attention. In this way, participating on a long intensive can become a vehicle of profound service. 

As Murray Kennedy, another a long intensive Master, puts it: 

“Anxiety and pressure give way to the spaciousness of unfolding reality. Devotion and surrender arise. One’s intention is simply to welcome the Truth whatever it is; however it is.” 

This is not to say that you won’t face struggle, pain or disappointment. 

When we do this work, it takes us to the core of our humanity and breaks our hearts open to all the ways we try to control reality - and all the ways in which we cannot. It is an opportunity to face deep illusion.  And by grace and at any moment, it may take us beyond all that and into the realm of the absolute, the deep ocean of Truth in which we all abide.

This is deep work. It asks of you both dedication and surrender in equal measure.
